Frequently Asked Questions

How do I calculate my running pace?
Pace = Time ÷ Distance. If you ran 5 miles in 45 minutes, your pace is 45 ÷ 5 = 9 minutes per mile. For kilometers, a 30-minute 5K is 30 ÷ 5 = 6 min/km. Pace tells you how long each mile or kilometer takes.
What's a good running pace for beginners?
Most beginners run 10-12 min/mile (6-7.5 min/km). A comfortable conversational pace where you can talk is ideal for building endurance. Don't worry about speed initially—consistency matters more. As fitness improves, pace naturally drops.
How do I convert between min/mile and min/km?
Multiply min/mile by 0.621 to get min/km. Multiply min/km by 1.609 to get min/mile. Example: 8 min/mile × 0.621 = 4:58 min/km. Or: 5 min/km × 1.609 = 8:03 min/mile.
What pace do I need to run a sub-4-hour marathon?
A sub-4-hour marathon requires averaging 9:09 min/mile or 5:41 min/km. For a sub-2-hour half marathon, you need 9:09 min/mile. For a sub-25-minute 5K, you need 8:03 min/mile (5:00 min/km).
What are pace zones and why do they matter?
Pace zones target different training benefits. Easy pace (60-70% effort) builds aerobic base. Tempo pace (80-85%) improves lactate threshold. Interval pace (90-95%) builds speed. Varying zones prevents overtraining and maximizes improvement.
